The industry was in a panic until a junk scavenger named Willie Fulgear found 52 of them in a dumpster behind a grocery store. He was rewarded with $50,000 and tickets to the ceremony.

2. The Mysterious Case of Pavel Talankin (2026)

In a recent bizarre incident, Russian director Pavel Talankin’s Oscar went missing during a flight from New York. Security at JFK airport reportedly flagged the heavy gold statue as a "potential blunt weapon." After being separated from the director, the statue vanished in transit, sparking a frantic search by the airline before it was finally recovered.

3. Hattie McDaniel’s Historic Loss
