Rebel Wilson Branded a "Fantastical Liar" as Feud with Co-Star Charlotte MacInnes Ends in Court

The high-stakes defamation battle between Hollywood star Rebel Wilson and her young co-star Charlotte MacInnes has concluded with explosive closing arguments. Wilson, famous for her role in Bridesmaids, stands accused of creating a "complete revision of history" to damage the reputation of the rising Australian actress.

The "Bondi Beach" Incident: Fact vs. Fiction

The lawsuit centers on Instagram posts made by Wilson in 2024 and 2025. In these posts, Wilson alleged that MacInnes had retracted a sexual harassment complaint against producer Amanda Ghost in exchange for career favors.

However, the court heard a very different version of events. During the filming of The Deb, Ghost suffered a severe medical episode—an allergic reaction to cold water at Bondi Beach. The pair shared a bath simply to warm up while wearing swimsuits. Wilson’s claim that this was a "sexual" encounter was described by MacInnes's lawyer, Sue Chrysanthou SC, as a story that "defies logic" given the medical circumstances.

"Fantastical Liar" and Bullying Allegations

In a stinging rebuke, Wilson was branded a "fantastical liar" during the closing submissions. The court was told that:

  • Malicious Concoctions: Wilson allegedly fabricated the story as "leverage" during contract negotiations to demand more money from the film's producers.

  • Bullying Claims: Beyond the defamation, Wilson was also accused of bullying other women on the set of The Deb, a claim she has dismissed as "absolute nonsense."

The Defense’s Counter-Argument

Wilson’s legal team, led by Dauid Sibtain SC, maintained that MacInnes’s career has actually flourished since the incident, citing a major record deal and new acting roles. They argued that MacInnes changed her story to align with the producer's interests for professional gain.

Ongoing Legal Turmoil

This case is just the tip of the iceberg for Wilson. She is currently embroiled in:

  1. A secondary legal case in Australia regarding the film The Deb.

  2. A lawsuit in the United States brought by the same production team, including Amanda Ghost.

Justice Elizabeth Raper is expected to deliver her decision soon, which could involve significant aggravated damages against Wilson.
